Nursing Home Abuse (Wrongful Death)

The Charges

The Hagood Law Firm was able to obtain a settlement on behalf of a family who lost their father and/or husband because of nursing home abuse. The case involved a patient who was admitted to a nursing home for occupational and physical therapy. The patient, who previously had kidney issues, had previously developed sores on his legs which were wrapped with bandages. His treating doctor ordered for the bandages to be replaced every other day. The evidence showed that the bandages had not been changed for over a month when the nursing home nurses discovered the patient’s leg was green. The patient was transported, emergently, to a nearby hospital, where he was diagnosed with gangrene and sepsis.

The Result

The patient’s leg was amputated but succumbed days later from the effects of the systemic septic infection caused by the gangrene. The family brought the wrongful death suit against the nursing home who elected to settle out of court.
